Welcome to Torquay, part of the stunning English Riviera, situated on the South Devon Coastline in sheltered Torbay.
Torquay is the most popular and largest town in Torbay, comprising, Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. The English Riviera is a resort in the truest sense of the word, attracting visitors of all ages and interests throughout the year. Torquay has something for everyone and for all ages, at all times of the year! Torquay has been one of the UK’s top holiday destinations since Victorian Times when the gentry promenaded, bathing huts were wheeled down to the beaches and anyone who was anyone had an attractive villa overlooking the sea.
It was the Victorians who first used the Riviera name to describe their favourite resort and their legacy remains to this day with sparkling white villas perched on the verdant hilltops, beautiful gardens around the seafront and elegant Victorian facades along the main streets. Don't be fooled by the Victorian ancestry however, Torquay is also a vibrant and forward thinking resort attracting visitors of all interests.
Torquay's famous seven hills provide the backdrop to a waterfront scene that matches anything you'll find on the French Riviera. |

A day to explore Torquay, walk along the prom, shopping or even visit the oldest inn in Torquay “The Hole in the Wall”. Built in 1540, the Hole-in-the-Wall is tucked away in Park Lane, a little side street off the Strand. The Hole-in-the-Wall is a very nicely decorated pub and the food is good quality pub food. They claim they have been serving smugglers, men of the sea, businessmen, locals and visitors for hundreds of years. |

The Pilgrim Fathers left Plymouth’s shores for the New World, whilst Scott of the Antarctic, Captain James Cook, Charles Darwin and those two global circumnavigators named Francis: Drake and Chichester are just some of the renowned explorers who have set sail from our city. Plymouth Sound, the city’s natural deepwater harbour, brought the Royal Navy here in the 17th century, helping to create a bustling Georgian port from its medieval origins. Soak up the historic atmosphere of The Barbican’s quayside cobbled streets or explore the Elizabethan and Merchant’s Houses to really step back in time. |

| Dartmouth is designated "an area of outstanding natural beauty" and rightly so, with its deep blue river, rolling countryside, world renown restaurants and ancient bars. Dartmouth is the loveliest of the South Hams towns and well deserves its reputation as the jewel in Devon's crown. This area of South Devon is, in addition, blessed with a mild climate, nestling beneath the sheltering splendour of Dartmoor. The lushness of the River Dart snaking through wooded hillsides and the myriad colourful craft on the blue waters seems to transport you to more exotic climes. Strolling is the order of the day here - it's a pity to rush. Take your time as you wander along the main embankment that runs through the town from New Quay towards Bayard's Cove. Admire the 17th-century Butter walk with its impressive restored timber-framed facade, cobbled Bayard’s Cove, which often featured in TVs The Onedin Line, looks much the Same as it did in the 16th Century and the ancient harbour has been a point of departure for around 1,000 years. Dartmouth Castle, about a mile out of town overlooking the Dart, is a fortress constructed specially for artillery and for six centuries protected the town and its wealthy merchants from marauders - gaze down from its walls and you can see why this is a superb natural harbour. Dominating the skyline is the 1905 Britannia Royal Naval College, the training ground for Royal Navy officers including several Royals. |
